Southgate: 'Rashford is a completely different player from last year'

Coach Gareth Southgate insists Marcus Rashford has become a completely different player than he was at last year's Euros.

Last summer, Rashford was just a substitute and suffered a shoulder injury in the England squad that reached the Euro final. In the final, the Man United player also missed a disastrous penalty against Italy.

Southgate: Rashford is a completely different player from last year

A bad season on the pitch with Man United made Rashford completely excluded from the England team. But this player has revived under coach Ten Hag and won the ticket to Qatar well deserved.

With a brace against Wales, Rashford has a total of 3 goals in this tournament. When asked about Rashford's battle for form and fitness, coach Southgate insisted the 25-year-old is in a completely different state now than he was last year.

“It was a challenge for him. I went to see him in the summer. We had a long talk, and he had some clear ideas about what to think about and what to do.

You can see the fun in the club performances this year. That is also shown in the training sessions with us.

We had a completely different version of the player we had at Euro last year. He created some impressive moments today and he could have scored a hat-trick.

This performance was great for Rashford, and that's why it was great for us too."
